Twitter reaction to shocking Canadiens coaching change

The Montreal Canadiens have fired their head coach Michel Therrien and replaced him with former Bruins and Canadiens coach Claude Julien. GM Marc Bergevin said the decision was tough but change was needed.

The Montreal Canadiens dropped a bombshell on the hockey world Tuesday afternoon, firing Michel Therrien and replacing him with Claude Julien just one week after Julien was fired by the Boston Bruins.

Remarkably, this is the second time the Canadiens have substituted Therrien with Julien, who went 72-62-10-15 with the Habs the first time around.

No one expected Julien to be available for too long and he was jobless for just seven days.

“Good, good, good man. Even better coach,” Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock said of Julien last week. “Someone out there is happy today. I mean, you ain’t getting better. When you make these decisions, you better have a guy in mind that’s better than that guy. Not many, I can tell you that.”

Dallas Stars bench boss Lindy Ruff added: “I’m sure he won’t be out of it long if he chooses not to be out of it long.”

Predictably, it didn’t take long for both Bruins and Canadiens fans to express their feelings on social media.

There were also GIFs galore.
