You can’t make this stuff up.
It’s not rich enough that Boston Bruins forward Tyler Seguin was graciously hosting “Speed Dating with Tyler Seguin!” Night at a Lowell Spinners baseball game Wednesday. No, sir.
The vice president of the Boston Red Sox Class-A affiliate, one Dan Beaulieu, had to go and save Seguin’s life (and the Boston Bruins’ upcoming season), as he puts it, by leaping between a sharply hit foul ball and the back of Seguin’s head.
The single Bruins star had his back to the Aberdeen Ironbirds hitter, busy signing autographs for some lucky ladies, when the incident occurred. Beaulieu acted quickly, protecting Seguin the way a security official might take a bullet for the President.
“This lefty hit a shot right at the back of Tyler’s head, and I valiantly jumped out and smashed my cellphone,” Beaulieu said afterward, flashing his cracked callpiece.
Seguin broke from his speed date to hug the good Samaritan.
“Anything for my buddy here,” Beaulieu said, slinging his arm around a smiling, unscathed Seguin. “We saved him.”
