UND’s McIntyre going pro, wants to join Bruins

University of North Dakota goaltender Zane McIntyre plans to go pro next season, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

McIntyre was selected by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (165th overall) in 2010 and although he has the ability to become a free agent indications are the 22-year-old wants to sign with the Bruins.

The Bruins will be in need of a backup netminder in the fall because Niklas Svedberg is reportedly on his way to the KHL. Boston also has Malcolm Subban and Jeremy Smith currently in their system.

McIntyre, a native of Thief River Falls, Minn., went 29-10-3 with a 2.05 goals-against average and .929 save percentage in 42 games with UND this season. He also won the Mike Richter Award in 2015 as the top goalie in Division 1 men’s hockey.
