Vegas Golden Knights reveal sweater numbers for inaugural roster

It’s the most talked about franchise in the game today. Sportsnet investigates how the Las Vegas Golden Knights became a reality.

The Vegas Golden Knights released the sweater numbers to be worn by each player on their roster this coming season on Wednesday.

Most numbers are what you’d expect from players who have already played in the NHL, though a couple of choices do stand out.

Nothing earth shattering with the defencemen.

The goalies all took fairly standard approaches with their digits, everyone wearing what they had last season.

The first chunk of forwards again brings with it not many surprises, though Brendan Leipsic is free to wear No. 13 now that he’s no longer with Torono, which retired the number last season.

Still, though, nothing all that special.

There we go.

Vadim Shipachyov clearly isn’t worried about any added pressure of wearing the No. 87, which he’s sported to great heights as a KHL superstar.

Washington’s Liam O’Brien was the only player other than Sidney Crosby to wear 87 last season, and he only played one game.

David Clarkson, unofficially retired, figured he might as well get in on No. 97 before Connor McDavid makes it unwearable for any one other than himself.
