Watch: Hockey players in Kenya talk love of game

Hockey players in Nairobi, Kenya get ready to play a game at the Panari Hotel.

Fans in North America often take hockey for granted, but a video profiling a group of players in Nairobi, Kenya illustrates why the game is considered a universal language.

“We love this game a lot and want to find others to help us play the game we are so passionate about,” one man said.

The video, posted earlier this week by Hockey Tutorial and produced by the Lincoln Marketing Agency, even caught the attention of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

There aren’t many opportunities to play hockey in Kenya – with just one sheet of ice in the country located at the Panari Hotel, plus a weekly roller hockey game held Sundays – but that doesn’t mean there’s a lack of passion for the game.

“When the blade touches the ice, you feel a feeling you can’t really express in words because you feel so free, you feel you can express yourself, you feel you can actually fly, you feel like you are floating on the ice,” the man added.
