The Pittsburgh Penguins are clearly thrilled that Phil Kessel is on their team.
On Thursday, the team teased Kessel’s jersey in a vine. The winger will continue to wear No. 81 like he did with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Earlier in the day, Kessel opened up in his first interview since being acquired from the Maple Leafs in a blockbuster trade that stole the headlines on the opening day of NHL free agency.
“Oh, I’m just so excited, man. I really am,” Kessel told Dejan Kovacevic. “For it to be Pittsburgh…with everything that franchise has meant and two of the best players in the world there…I never would have thought I’d have the chance to play with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, to play on a team like the Penguins. It’s just amazing. I’m so pumped.”
