Gretzky says he has only talked to Kings

Wayne Gretzky has not had any discussions with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Gretzky joined Elliotte Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada Radio Wednesday where he said the only team he has talked to has been the Los Angeles Kings.

“The only team I’ve talked to about being involved is Dean Lombardi and the L.A. Kings,” Gretzky told Friedman. “At this point, I just really am enjoying this situation in my life. Haven’t thought about going down that avenue.”

Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Gretzky could be a possible fit for a front office position with the Maple Leafs, but the Hall of Fame forward could only laugh at the speculation.

“There was word that I was going to Toronto,” he said. “It was news to me. It was nice of people to think and to mention to me. There is 100 per cent no truth to it. (I am) enjoying playing golf and getting ready for my fantasy camp.”

Gretzky said while he may have friends in the Maple Leafs organization and in Southern Ontario, he has no interest in returning to hockey or leaving Los Angeles any time soon.
