ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild have set their active roster for the regular season by placing centre Cody Almond and left wing Stephane Veilleux on waivers and right wing Justin Fontaine on injured reserve.

Minnesota also signed forward Ryan Carter to a one-year contract. Carter had seven goals and three assists in 62 games with New Jersey last season.

The moves were made Monday, meaning rookie defencemen Matt Dumba and Christian Folin were on the team. Veterans Keith Ballard and Nate Prosser were also among the eight players kept on the blue line.

The Wild also released goalie Ilya Bryzgalov from his tryout, turning over the net to Niklas Backstrom and Darcy Kuemper. Josh Harding is on the suspended list while recovering from a foot injury that occurred off the ice.

Fontaine has a lower-body injury and is expected back soon.

The Wild play their opener Thursday against Colorado.
