Jets’ Wheeler hurt by Byfuglien shot to the head, leaves practice

The deal is if you're facing Leo Komarov, chances are high he is going to hit you. It's just how it is.

A scary moment occurred at the Winnipeg Jets practice Friday.

Star defenceman Dustin Byfuglien took a shot that hit forward Blake Wheeler in the head.

Watch the footage here:

Wheeler hit the ice and spent a few minutes down, writhing in pain. He did, however, get up on his own power and left the ice with a towel on his face.

Coach Paul Maurice told reporters that Wheeler was coherent, but the player’s health status won’t be known until he is examined by medical staff. An update is expected Saturday.

The 29-year-old Wheeler is enjoying a stellar season, scoring a team-high 21 points through 20 games and limiting his penalties to just six minutes.

The Jets next host the Arizona Coyotes Saturday in Winnipeg.
