MONTREAL — Former NHL forward Guillaume Latendresse is pondering his hockey future after being cut by the Zurich Lions of the Swiss league.
Various Swiss media reported Thursday that Zurich used an opt-out clause to terminate its contract with Latendresse, who is recovering from a concussion suffered Oct. 29 in a game against Servette Geneva.
Latendresse sent a tweet that said: "I will take time to make the right decision for my health, my family and my future. Thanks to you all."
The 26-year-old had three goals and three assists in 12 games in his first season in Switzerland.
Latendresse had 87 goals and 147 points in 341 NHL games with Montreal, Minnesota and Ottawa. The Ste-Catherine, Que., native was drafted in the second round by the Canadiens in 2005. His best season was 2009-10 with the Wild, when he had 25 goals in 55 games.
In 2003, he was taken second overall — behind Sidney Crosby — by Drummondville in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft. He was on Canada’s gold medal team at the 2005 world junior championship.
