QMJHL Playoffs: Olympiques beat Wildcats for 2-1 series lead

The Moncton Wildcats lived up to its namesake on Tuesday as they were routed 7-1 to the Gatineau Olympiques in a wild, penalty filled Game 3 of their QMJHL playoff series.

MONCTON, N.B. – Chiwetin Blacksmith had two goals and an assist and Mathieu Bellemare made 37 saves at the Gatineau Olympiques toppled the Moncton Wildcats 7-1 in Game 3 of their second-round Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series on Tuesday.

Alex Dostie also scored twice for the Olympiques, who lead the best-of-seven series 2-1. Yan Pavel Laplante, Austin Eastman and Alexandre Landreville rounded out the offence.

Vaclav Karabacek had the lone goal for Moncton, 6:38 into the first period.

Keven Bouchard started in net for the Wildcats, allowing four goals on 18 shots through 43:04. Blade Mann-Dixon gave up three goals on five shots the rest of the way.

Gatineau was 1 for 4 on the power play while Moncton squandered five opportunities with the man advantage.

HUSKIES 1 ARMADA 0 (OT)

BOISBRIAND, Que. — Antoine Waked scored the only goal of the game 2:41 into overtime to give Rouyn-Noranda a 2-1 lead over the Armada in their second-round playoff series.

Huskies goaltender Chase Marchand stopped all 17 shots he faced.

Blainville-Boisbriand’s Samuel Montembeault made 30 saves in the losing effort.

CATARACTES 6 ISLANDERS 2

CHARLOTTETOWN — Six different skaters found the back of the net and Danny Moynihan had three assists as Shawinigan downed the Islanders in Game 4 to even their best-of-seven playoff series 2-2.

Cavan Fitzgerald, Gabriel Gagne, Dmytro Timashov and Pascal Aquin had a goal and an assist apiece for the Cataractes and Dennis Yan and Anthony Beauvillier also scored.

Pierre-Olivier Joseph and Oliver Cooper replied for Charlottetown.

SCREAMING EAGLES 4 SEA DOGS 1

SYDNEY, N.S. — Phelix Martineau scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period and Pierre-Luc Dubois had a goal and an assist as the Screaming Eagles defeated Saint John for a 2-2 tie in their playoff series.

Evgeny Svechnikov and Giovanni Fore also scored for Cape Breton.

Jakub Zboril had a power-play goal for the Sea Dogs.
