KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Olga Sosina and Anna Shukina scored for Russia in a 1-0 shootout win over Finland in Monday’s bronze-medal game at the women’s world hockey championship.
Russian goaltender Nadezhda Morozova had 32 saves in regulation and overtime.
She stopped Minttu Tuominen with a poke check before Finland’s Sari Karna hit the post in front of an announced 2,351 at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops, B.C.
Finland’s Meeri Raisanen stopped 22 shots over 70 minutes and made a save on Yelena Dergachyova in extra shots. But Shukina scored on her country’s first attempt and Sosina notched the winner with a backhand shot.
Russia previously won world championship bronze medals in 2001 and 2013.
Finland was coming off a 5-3 semifinal loss to host Canada the previous evening. Russia fell 9-0 to defending champion U.S. in a Sunday afternoon semifinal.
Canada and U.S. were to meet for the gold medal later Monday.
