TORONTO -- The Toronto Maple Leafs are adding some depth at the goaltender position.
The Leafs picked up veteran netminder Martin Gerber off re-entry waivers from Ottawa on Wednesday.
Gerber has a 4-9-1 record in 14 appearances this season with a 2.86 goals-against average and .899 save percentage. He's spent the past couple months with Binghamton in the American Hockey League.
Gerber, who is making US$3.7 million this season, will become an unrestricted free agent July 1. The Leafs will pay half his salary for the remainder of the campaign.
The Maple Leafs also picked up defenceman Erik Reitz off waivers from the New York Rangers.
He has two points (one goal, one assist) and 65 penalty minutes in 42 games with the Rangers and Minnesota Wild this season.
