Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke has made a trade with his former team, sending goaltender Justin Pogge to the Anaheim Ducks for a conditional late-round draft pick in 2011.

Last month, Pogge signed the one-year, two-way qualifying offer that the Leafs had extended prior to the free agent market opening on July 1st. It had become clear, however, that Pogge wasn't in the club's future plans when the Leafs signed free agent goaltender Jonas (The Monster) Gustavsson from the Swedish Elite League earlier this summer.

As a result, Burke confirmed to the media last week that he would try to trade the young goaltender to a team that could offer him a second chance to prove he's capable of playing in the NHL.

Drafted by the Leafs 90th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Pogge failed to live up to expectations. He had spent most of the last few seasons with the Marlies, Toronto's AHL affiliate, and did not impress in call-ups to the big club. In seven appearances with the Leafs last season, Pogge was 1-4 with a 4.35 goals against average and 0.844 save percentage.

The Fort McMurray, AB native was a member of Canada's 2006 world junior championship team. He helped the country to a second straight gold medal, recording three shutouts and a 1.00 GAA in the tournament. As a member of the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League, Pogge was named the CHL goaltender of the year in 2005-06.
