Forward Scott Walker became the second veteran player to be moved by the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday, shipped to the Washington Capitals hours before the NHL's trade deadline.

The 36-year-old was moved for a seventh-round pick in this year's draft. The move came less than an hour after Carolina shipped 37-year-old defenceman Aaron Ward to Anaheim.

Walker was taken 124th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1993 draft, and moved to Nashville in the expansion draft. The Hurricanes picked him up in a trade four years ago.

Walker had three goals and two assists through 33 games with Carolina this season. He scored 21 goals with the Hurricanes three seasons ago.
