BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins acquired defenceman Dennis Seidenberg and prospect Matthew Bartkowski from the Carolina Hurricanes for forwards Byron Bitz, Craig Weller and a second-round draft pick on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Seidenberg recently played for Germany at the Olympics and is earning US$2.25 million this season.

He had two goals and 23 points in 62 games for the Hurricanes.

The 25-year-old Bitz had spent his entire career with the Bruins, scoring four goals and nine points in 45 games this season. He is earning $675,000 and is due $700,000 next year.

Weller has spent the season in the American Hockey League.

Earlier in the day, Boston dealt defenceman Derek Morris to Phoenix for a conditional draft pick in 2011.
