Will 2011 be the year when one of Canada's best and brightest athletes finally knocks off Georges St-Pierre as Sportsnet's Canadian Athlete of the Year?

For three years running the UFC welterweight champion and native of Montreal, PQ, has tapped-out the competition en route to decisive victories in the voting. In 2010, St-Pierre decimated the bracket-style voting by eliminating Olympian Maelle Ricker, Reds slugger Joey Votto, Stanley Cup champions Jonathan Toews and finally Olympic men's hockey gold medal hero Sidney Crosby for a second time ('09) to defend his crown for a third consecutive year.

This year St-Pierre (READ) faced off against five worthy Canadians in his pursuit of a fourth title: Corey Perry (READ), Christine Sinclair (READ), Dylan Armstrong (READ), Patrick Chan (READ) & Joey Votto (READ).

In an added twist, Sportsnet used its four media platforms to determine the 2011 winner. It began online and with Sportsnet magazine on Nov. 10 with the written arguments for each and a poll to cast your vote, which accounted for a percentage of the final decision. The winner will be unveiled in the Dec. 8 issue of the magazine and online on sportsnet.ca.

So have a final read & discuss the nominees further on the brand new Fan Fuel blog before the decision is announced on Thursday.

Cheers,
