The UFC held a conference call on Thursday to announce a new television deal with SpikeTV as well as the upcoming Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva fight. But there was another thing president Dana White was eager to discuss: the acquisition of popular WWE star Brock Lesnar.

"We plan on advertising Brock Lesnar's signing everywhere," said White. "He's popular everywhere. ... As you’ve seen in the past with guys who are talented wrestlers like Randy Couture, Matt Hughes, and even Chuck Liddell, wrestlers usually do very well in the UFC so we have high hopes for Brock."

Lesnar, meanwhile, isn't joining the MMA world just to make headlines. He hopes to be taken seriously.

"Why am I fighting in the UFC?" asked Lesnar. "Pride and dignity. I’m a professional athlete. I want to put challenges in front of me and conquer them."

White said Lesnar's first fight will most likely be in February during Super Bowl weekend.

White discussed many other topics including the resignation of Randy Couture, who was holding a news conference of his own at the same time. He was insistent however that the timing of the UFC's conference call was not intended to "mess" with Couture.

"Am I putting on a press conference to f--- with Randy Couture right now?" asked White. "Is that what you're asking me? No, it's not intentional."

White added he remained friends with Couture and is confident he will return.
