Here are my picks for Saturday's UFC 79 in Las Vegas...

Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Hughes

St. Pierre by submission in the third round... Both guys want to fight Serra so it will be interesting to see if GSP is prepared and if hughes has lost some venom.

Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva

Liddell by TKO in the first round… Chuck is in a situation where he needs to win to revive his career and he's easily motivated to fight Silva.

Lyoto Machida vs. Rameau Sokoudjou

Machida by decision... Machida has good power and is a very composed fighter. I expect he will frustrate Sokoudjou.

Rich clementi vs. Melvin Guillard

Clementi by submission in the second round… After he beat an overweight Anthony Johnson at UFC 76, I don't doubt Clementi anymore.

Sao Palelei vs. Eddie Sanchez

Ssanchez by TKO in the first round… The ring rust and Octagon debut will be too much for another former Pride fighter.

Mark Bocek vs. Doug Evans

Bocek by submission in the third round… Bocek got a bogus stoppage against him in his last fight against Frankie Edgar; he won't let that happen again.

Luis cane vs. James Irvin

Cane by submission in the second round... Irvin's knee injury will haunt him and Cane will take him down, where he has the advantage.

Nate Mohr vs. Manny Gamburyan

Gamburyan by decision… If Manny's healthy he should be able to get this one to the ground and go to work.

Jordan Radev vs. Dean Lister

Lister by submissionin the first round… Lister is a master at submissions.

Roan Carneiro vs. Tony DeSouza

Carneiro by decision… DeSouza's first fight of 2007 will show signs of inactivity.

Comments

You're not serious are you?

Liddell has NEVER fought anyone like Silva before...He's NEVER been in the ring with a fighter with the incredible Muai Thai skills of Wanderlai...The fights ends in a full fledged KNOCK OUT...and not one of the technical sort....But it's Liddell and his career flat on the mat looking up at the bright, vegas lights.

And Sokoudjou has rediculose knockout wins over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona....I don't know if you've heard of either of those two fighters, but they BOTH constitute better, more respectedand tougher opposition than Lyoto friggin Machida...I think you should re-evaluate your picks R.J.

Ferocitas, you could easily say that Wanderlei has never fought the likes of Chuck Liddell either

Posted by: Danielzimmy | 2:12 PM, Friday December 28, 2007

Danielzimmy, I don't know how much you've followed Silva's career, but I'm going to assume not much. He fought one of the hardest hitting men EVER to fight, Mark Hunt. Hunt out weighed him by 50+ pounds and was damned near a "super heavyweight"...Sure, Silva lost, but it was a split decision, and controversial to boot.

He's also fought Mirko CroCop twice. Now, his showings in the Octagon aren't all that spectacular, but in PRIDEFC, he was deadly. Again, yes, Wanderlai lost their second fight, but no one could even come near CroCop's desire that night. They drew in a STAND UP ONLY special rules fight. There are two of the top strikers in the world. And he stood with both. Liddell lost to Rampage Jackson...TWICE...Silva? Knocked him out...TWICE.

You can go back to their youth's, and liddell holds wins over a few people that beat Silva (Vitor Belfort and Tito Ortiz)....But Liddell is on his way out...

Liddell might be on his way out, but so is Silva dude.

Just because he's from PRIDE, doesn't mean he's on his way to a title again.

Oh, and WAR GSP!

RJ, oyu dont actually bleive what you jsut said. Look, we no this is a UFC vs PRIDE match and we all no youd take a bullet for the UFC but Chuck has never ever foguth the calibur of fighters that Wanderlei has.

Lets take a look at it like this

Here is who Wanderlei has foguht

Kazushi Sakuraba, destroyed him 3 times

Quinton Jackson, brutally KOed him 2wice, which Liddell failed 2wice to even put up a good against him

Yuki Kondo, King of Pancrase Champion, KOed him quite easily

Ikuhisa Minowa, right now could probably be in the top 10 of the ufc middelweigt divison

Foguth Cro Cop 2wice, went the distane once and got Knocked out the second fight but fought very well

FOught Mark Hunt, hoo at the tiem weighted 90 pounds more than him and lost in a controversal descsion

Lost to Dan Henderson, a legend in MMA but fought well engouh to win in the first 2 rounds of the fight

Destroyed Guy Mezger when he was in his prime (chuck beat him way after mezger's carrer should have ended)

He beat hideohiko Yoshida 2wice and both fights it wasent even close

He beat Kiyoshi Tamura easily and same with Hiromitsu Kanehara

he beat Ricardo Arona

He DESTROYED Kazayuki Fujita buy TKO

He also destoryed Kazuhiro Nakamura

went the distance with Tito ortiz and lost when tito was one of hte best fighters on the planent

and who has chuck really foguht?

you have favored Chuck Liddell in every fight and have looked past the fact

case and point when he foguht Quinton Jackson

lets look at hoo chuck fought

Beat Tito 3 tmes (twice way after TIto was a top 10 light heavyweight)

Be Balblu (balbalu was never a top 10)

beat jeremy Horn (after horn's day)

beat Randy Coture (i will give oyu that one)

beat Allastiar Overeem (another one ill give oyu)

Vernon White (last time i checked he could even make it in the IFL)

Beat Vitor Belfort (ill give oyu that one)

Beat Kevin Randleman (il give you that one)

Beat Murilo Bustamente (he is alright, to bad at htat tiem the UFC Middelweight divson was awful and no one could test him)

Best Amar Suloev (hoo?)

beat Jeff The Can Monson

so he has foguht 1 fighter heavier than him

not to mention getting Destroyed 2wice agianst Quinton, in which Wandelrei destroyed Quinton 2wice

oh yea Silva is 7 years younger and is Training with Sean Tompkins who is probably the best trainer ever

there is no way CHuck can win this fight

sorry, thats the truth

and once chuck retires after this fight, who are you gonnna always favor now? Forrest Griffen?

sorry for the bad spelling

i mean to say Chuck hasent fought the same amount of high calibur opponents as Wanderlei

pretty good predictions, Chuck & GSP both dominated.

Well, RJ, those were some pretty impressive picks. All your win-loss predictions came true with the exception of the dq.

Guess those condescending (Ferocitas, I'm lookin' in your direction) get to eat their words.

Lookin' forward to your next event's predictions. As much as I hate Hughes, I'm glad he was gracious in his defeat & St. Pierre is gonna steamroll Serra when they meet again!

What happened to your PRIDE boys?

Sokoudjou got DOMINATED. Silva was never in that fight.

wow, you guys have some serious knowledge about these fighters. What you put ont the board only makes me respect what Chuck accomplished last night. He did look to be in better shape that ever before and from what I saw of the highlights (wife wanted the TV last night, pick your battles and all that) he finally came prepared. thanks for the education fedor.

So if a guy has 1 fight in a cage and 1 fight in hte ufc for the matter, automatically you judge there enitre carrers?

thats not fair

when Chuck came to pride in 2003, nobody judged him except for Damon Perry, who was fired imideatley after Final Conflict 2003

And if pride fighters are so bad, why are they hold 2 of the UFC's belts and 1 of them is in the deepest talent pool by far

no one ever said all pride guys would own, jsut that certain pride guys would own, just like certain ufc fighters would own in Pride
