Kimbo Slice's next primetime appearance will be against a guy with an even larger reputation. Kevin Ferguson, aka internet streetfighting sensation Kimbo Slice, will next fight UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock.
According to MMAjunkie.com the two heavyweights will square off on Oct. 4 in the main event of EliteXC's third primetime show on CBS.
Slice had already been set to headline the card at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. He is 3-0 in mixed martial arts competition, but Shamrock represents a big step up in class.
A former WWE fighter, shamrock (26-13-2) also made a huge name for himself in the UFC and in Japan.
After the first show on CBS early in the year, which also featured Slice as well as Gina Carano, was a success, ratings slipped significantly for the second one in July due in part to less name recognition. EliteXC is hoping that having Slice again and taking on Shamrock whom vice-president Jared Shaw calls "the biggest proven pay-per-view commodity in the sport" will bring back viewers to the first promotion to land a live primetime network TV deal.
After beating Tank Abbott in his first appearance after signing with the organization, in a fight that featured not much more than a few punches, Slice made his first pro appearance in front of millions of viewers against James Thompson. This one lasted a little longer and displayed a few other aspects of his MMA game, but also showed his inexperience. After getting close to being finished on the ground in the second round, he pulled out a TKO win in the third in a memorably bloody scene that saw Thompson's ear getted popped by a punch.
He'll likely have to draw more from his training in his next matchup, though Shamrock is not quite the fighter he used to be and is on a five-bout losing streak.
Also returning to action for a second time on this CBS card, Carano who faces Kelly Kobald. An expected matchup with Christiane (Cyborg) Santos will reportedly take place in the new year.
