Canadian lightweight fighter Chris Horodecki, who was set to make his Affliction debut on Saturday, was denied medical clearance and his fight against Dan Lauzon is off, Horodecki’s manager Shawn Tompkins told Sportsnet.ca on Wednesday.

Horodecki (12-1) had not fought since April in the IFL but was scheduled to appear on the main card of Affliction’s second event, titled “Day of Reckoning” at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

The 21-year-old from London, Ont., was in California along with Tompkins on Wednesday for the pre-fight press conference. It was then that they discovered he was not going to get the go-ahead required from doctors for the California State Athletic Commission to allow him to compete, because of a bulging disc in his neck

His removal from the card follows that of fellow Team Tompkins member Mark Hominick of Thamesford, Ont., who had to pull out of the event last week after coming down with pneumonia. The top-ranked featherweight, who beat Savant Young on Affliction’s first ever event in July, was supposed to take on L.C. Davis on the undercard Saturday.

“This is horrible for our team,” Hominick said Wednesday night. “There’s nothing worse than having a fight taken away from you. Whether your opponent gets hurt or you get hurt, it feels the same.”

The sickness was another blow specifically for Hominick, who had to pull out of a recent fight because of a neck injury. He also signed a three-fight deal with TKO Championship Fighting, which he called one of his most lucrative to date, before the Montreal-based promotion folded.

He isn’t sure when he’ll be able to get back in the cage.

“I have to see where my health is at,” Hominick said. “The doctor told me it could take a month and a half to two months to heal from this. You can’t really mess around with that. I had my chest X-rayed (Tuesday) and they found a bit of water in my lungs.”

Hominick added: “It’s just bad timing. I was in shape and ready to go.”

Affliction: Day of Reckoning is headlined by a title bout between champion Fedor Emelianenko and Andrei Arlovski for the WAMMA heavyweight belt.
