Former WWE star Bobby (The Dominator) Lashley has signed with the Maximum Fighting Championship and will make his debut for the Edmonton-based promotion at MFC 21: Hard Knocks against Mike Cook.

Lashley, 32, is fast establishing himself as a potential prospect in the sport of mixed martial arts. At six-foot-three, 265 pounds, he could be following the large footsteps of another former pro wrestler, Brock Lesnar, who quickly became the UFC's heavyweight champion in only his fourth career fight.

In December, Lashley (2-0) won earned a 41-second TKO of Joshua Franklin in his professional debut. He followed that up with a unanimous-decision win over Jason Guida on March 21.

"Bobby Lashley is a phenomenal athlete and a very impressive fighter who wants to make a big name for himself in mixed martial arts," MFC president Mark Pavelich said in a release. "He is a very exciting prospect and he will get a monumental opportunity to break into the spotlight at MFC 21."

The matchup against Cook (7-3), who is trained by veteran Frank Shamrock, will take place on May 15 at the River Cree Resort and Casino.

A report earlier in the week said Lashley, a two-time NAIA college wrestling champion, will take on former NFL lineman Bob Sapp at a Prize Fight Promotions event on June 27 in Biloxi, Miss. An MFC spokesman said that wouldn't be a problem as far as their organization was concerned.
