Kelowna, B.C.'s Rory (The Waterboy) MacDonald will get his second UFC appearance near his hometown -- he will compete at the organization's first event in Vancouver in June, reportedly against Carlos (The Natural Born Killer) Condit.
MacDonald confirmed to Sportsnet his next fight will be at UFC 115 at GM Place, currently scheduled for June 12. According to several media reports, he and Condit have verbally agreed to face each other.
The Canadian, currently the youngest fighter on the UFC's roster at 20 years old, made an impression in his Octagon debut earlier this month, submitting veteran Mike Guymon in the first round at the Jan. 11 UFC Fight Night in Fairfax, Va.
MacDonald, who improved his unbeaten professional record to 10-0 with the victory, will get an even tougher test against Condit, the former WEC welterweight champion. The American won the sister promotion's 170-pound belt by defeating another B.C. native, John Alessio, at WEC 26 in March 2007. Condit successfully defended the belt three times before the division was retired and the fighters were absorbed into the UFC's welterweight class.
Condit (24-5) dropped his UFC debut last April by split decision to Martin Kampmann but rebounded with a split-decision victory over Jake Ellenberger in September.
NOTES: According to Tatame.com, former UFC light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin will take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at the UFC's third event in Montreal. The UFC 113 matchup is expected to be finalized shortly for the May 8 event at the Bell Centre in Montreal. ... Two of the biggest MMA fighters in terms of stature and stardom also carry a lot of weight in the business world. UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and Strikeforce title-holder Fedor Emelianenko on Wednesday were named as two of the top 100 most powerful athletes in the world by "BusinessWeek." The list, titled "Power 100 of 2010," and headed by Tiger Woods, LeBron James, Phil Mickelson, Albert Pujols and Peyton Manning, considered elements including performance, marketability and earning potential.
