Maia to face Belcher in UFC return to Texas
July 12, 2010
THE CANADIAN PRESS
Brazilian middleweight Demian Maia looks to rebound from a loss to UFC champion Anderson Silva when he takes on Alan (The Talent) Belcher on Sept. 15 in Austin, Texas.
The televised "UFC Fight Night" card also features a rematch between lightweights (Handsome) Matt Wiman and Mac Danzig. Wiman won controversially last month in Vancouver at UFC 115 when referee Yves Lavigne stopped the fight as Danzig (20-8-1) was fighting off a choke.
Lavigne thought Danzig had passed out. Danzig maintained he was conscious and still in the fight, which ended after one minute 45 seconds.
Also on the card at the Frank Erwin Special Events Center on the campus of the University of Texas, lightweight Ross (The Real Deal) Pearson (13-3) takes on Cole Miller (16-4). Pearson, winner of Season 9 of "The Ultimate Fighter," is undefeated in his three UFC fights.
Lightweight Jim Miller (17-2) looks to run his win streak to five against Gleison Tibau (31-6). Tibau, a Brazilian who trains with American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla., is coming off a first-round TKO over Caol Uno in March.

NOTES -- Welterweight Mike (Quick) Swick, whose last outing was a loss to Paulo Thiago at UFC 109 in February, says he has some health issues to sort out before he fights again. "I haven't stopped fighting, I just need to get back healthy," he tweeted. "Yes I have been going through some stomach problems for a few years & am working to resolve them now." ... Former light-heavyweight champion Quinton (Rampage) Jackson, speaking via Twitter, says while his fight schedule is up in the air he knows his next opponent won't be Antonio Rogerio Nogueira ... Little Nog, meanwhile, continues to come in for attention from middleweight challenger Chael Sonnen, who takes on Nogueira friend and training partner Anderson Silva next month at UFC 117. "Hey Lil Nog, if you want to come visit a town called Middleweight, there is going to be a new sheriff is less than a month. Start jogging," Sonnen tweets. ... English middleweight Michael (The Count) Bisping says his UFC 120 fight against Yoshiro Akiyama will be Oct. 16 in London. ... Canadian welterweight John (The Natural) Alessio stopped War Machine, formally known as Jon Koppenhaver, in the third round at the "Tachi Palace Fights 5: Stars & Strikes" card Friday in Leemore, Calif. ... Former UFC heavyweight Tim (The Thrashing Machine) Hague stopped Zak Jensen in the first round after a vicious knee to the body in Friday's Aggression MMA card in Edmonton. ... Speaking of UFC 116, former UFC middleweight champion Matt Hughes says on his website -- www.matt-hughes.com/ -- that heavyweight title-holder Brock Lesnar "fought a good fight (in beating Shane Carwin), but definitely showed that he is beatable. I really thought that it was going to get stopped in the first round. I've had people tell me it should have been stopped, but obviously the right call was made because Brock came back and won the fight in the next round. I know Brock wears a 4X glove, what I don't know is what size running shoe he wears because after he got hit he put them on for a little bit."
