Preliminary fights live on Sportsnet
Rogers Sportsnet gets you ready for UFC 118 with exclusive HD broadcasts of the preliminary fights tonight at 9 p.m. (ET)/6 p.m. (PT) on Sportsnet East, Sportsnet East HD, Sportsnet Ontario and Sportsnet Ontario HD.
The UFC Lightweight Championship will be up for grabs during UFC 118 as Frankie “The Answer” Edgar defends his title against BJ “The Prodigy” Penn in a rematch from UFC 112. When the two last fought, Edgar won by a unanimous decision in one of the most shocking upsets in UFC history.
Also on the main card is the highly anticipated mixed martial arts debut of boxer James “Lights Out” Toney. For his first ever fight, the current IBA heavyweight champion will take on veteran Randy “The Natural” Couture. Couture is coming off a second-round submission of Mark Coleman at UFC 109 in February. This fight will be Couture’s first in the heavyweight class since losing to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 102.
The preliminary fights will include Massachusetts’ native Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon in a lightweight bout with fellow season five Ultimate Fighter contestant Gabe “Godzilla” Reudiger. It will be Reudiger’s first appearance in a UFC event since losing to Melvin Guillard at UFC 63 in September 2006. There will also be lightweight tilt between Ultimate Fighter season nine runner-up Andre Winner and Nik “The Carny” Letz. Letz has never lost a UFC event, beating both Rob Emerson and Rafaello Oliveira, and garnered a draw versus Thiago Tavares at Fight Night 20 in January of this year.
Sportsnet Connected will also be providing coverage leading up to UFC 118 with nightly reports from "Showdown" Joe Ferraro during the evening and prime editions starting on Wednesday, August 25.
For even more UFC 118 coverage, Sportsnet.ca will have live streaming of the UFC 118 Pre-Fight Press Conference on Wednesday, August 25 at 3 p.m. (ET)/12 p.m. (PT), the official weigh-in starting Friday, August 27 at 4 p.m. (ET)/1 p.m. (PT) and Post Fight Press Conference after the event ends on Saturday night.
Next Monday’s edition of MMA Connected from Boston will feature all the highlights of UFC 118 as well as an inside look at the UFC Fan Expo going on in Boston at the same time as the big event.
For all the highlights, breaking news and inside stories from the MMA, tune into MMA Connected with “Showdown” Joe Ferraro every Monday night and log on to sportsnet.ca. “Sports. Your style.”
