Sources have informed Sportsnet that a welterweight match up between Canadian T.J. Grant and American Ricardo Almeida has been proposed to both fighters by Zuffa, in hopes to add the bout to the growing fight card for UFC 124.
Grant (16-4), a native of Cole Harbour, NS, is 3-2 inside the octagon, and is coming off a unanimous judge's decision victory over Julio Paulino at UFC 119.
As for Almeida (12-4), who fights out of Hamilton, NJ, his record with the UFC is 5-4, with his last bout a stunning submission loss suffered at the hands of Matt Hughes. The former champion caught Almeida with a front headlock, twisted, turned, and put (The Big Dog) to sleep.
UFC 124 will take place on Dec. 11, at the Bell Centre in Montreal. The event will feature current welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who will put his title on the line vs. fellow Ultimate Fighter season 12 coach, Josh Koscheck.
Other rumoured bouts on the card include:
o Thiago Alves vs. John Howard
o Mark Bocek vs. Dustin Hazelett
o Sean McCorkle vs. Stefan Struve
Tickets for UFC 124: St-Pierre vs. Koscheck go on sale on Oct. 16.
