Red Deer, Altberta's Jason (The Athlete) MacDonald will take on Alan Belcher of Biloxi, Miss., at a UFC Fight Night in New Orleans on Sept. 17.
The two middleweights have verbally agreed to the fight, though a source told sportsnet.ca that MacDonald has not yet signed the contract. On Thursday, the UFC announced the matchup, as well as another middleweight tilt between Dongi Yang and Court McGee.
MacDonald (25-14) is fresh off an impressive submission win over Ryan Jensen at UFC 129 last month in Toronto. The New Glasgow, N.S., native was coming off leg surgery following an injury he sustained in his previous bout in April.
Belcher (16-6) has not fought since May 2010, when he beat Canadian Patrick Cote by submission. He had been out with an eye problem but returned to training earlier this year.
