Jimmo's UFC debut put on hold
Canadian Ryan Jimmo suffered an ankle injury in training and has been forced to withdraw from his UFC debut against Karlos Vemola at UFC on FX 1 on Jan. 20, according to Top MMA News.
After losing his professional MMA debut to CFL defensive end Adam Braidwood in 2007, Jimmo has gone undefeated, holding an impressive record of 16-1, and is the current light-heavyweight champion of the Canadian fight promotion Maximum Fighting Championship.
Jimmo, who grew up in Halifax but currently lives and fights out of Edmonton, recently won a controversial unanimous decision over former UFC fighter Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at MFC 31 in October. The 30-year-old also holds wins over UFC veterans Wilson Gouveia and Marvin Eastman.
There is no word on how long Jimmo will be out of commission and no replacement has been named for Vemola.
UFC on FX 1 is headlined by a lightweight bout between Jim Miller and Melvin Guillard. Canadian bantamweight Nick Denis makes his UFC debut at the event as he takes on Joseph Sandoval. The event can been seen live on Sportsnet.
