Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren is set to defend his 145-pound title against rising star Pat Curran in the main event at Bellator 60 on March 9 at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind.
Curran (16-4) won Bellator’s most recent featherweight tournament to earn the title shot. The 24-year-old knocked out Marlon Sandro in spectacular fashion at Bellator 48 in August to win the tournament. Prior to that he won a unanimous decision over Ronnie Mann at Bellator 47 in Orillia, Ont., and submitted Luis Palomino (a Peruvian) by Peruvian necktie at Bellator 46.
Curran’s only loss in his last eight bouts was a decision he dropped to then-lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. Curran also holds wins over UFC veteran Roger Huerta and Canadian Mike Ricci.
Warren (7-2) defeated Joe Soto at Bellator 27 to win the promotion’s featherweight title. The 35-year-old is coming off a brutal knockout loss to bantamweight Alexis Vila at Bellator 51 in September.
In other MMA news: A matchup between Canadian lightweight John Alessio and Ryan Healy has been confirmed for a March 16 MMA event at the Hamilton Place Theatre in Hamilton, Ont.
