Bellator MMA fighter dies due to injuries suffered in hit-and-run

Jordan Parsons, age 25, was 11-2 as a professional mixed martial artist.

Tragedy struck the mixed martial arts community as Bellator MMA fighter Jordan Parsons is dead at age 25, the organization confirmed Wednesday.

The featherweight succumbed to injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident over the weekend in Delray Beach, Fla.

“It is with a profound sadness that we announce the passing of a dear member of the Bellator family, Jordan Parsons,” Bellator president Scott Coker said in a statement. “Jordan was an exceptional athlete and a rising star in the sport. But more importantly, he was an exceptional young man. Jordan was hard-working, dedicated, intelligent, and a pleasure to be around. He represented all the reasons we love this sport. It is a terribly tragic loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and teammates.”

The driver who struck Parsons has yet to turn himself or herself into authorities. The hit-and-run occurred on Lindell Blvd. and South Federal Highway in Delray Beach. The organization asked that anyone with information regarding this incident call the Delray Beach Police Department at (561) 243-7800.

Parsons was 11-2 as a professional and went 3-0 as an amateur. The Berrien Springs, Mich., native trained out of the Blackzilians gym in Florida.

“We miss you already! Say hi to my pop for me and all of the other legends in heaven. Keep that smile glowing. Rest In Paradise Jordan,” UFC star and Parsons’ teammate Anthony Johnson wrote on his Facebook page.
