Fan favourite featherweight contenders Cub Swanson and Brian Ortega are set to headline a UFC Fight Night event Dec. 9 in Fresno, Calif., the promotion announced Tuesday.
This will be the fourth event Swanson has headlined since 2014 and the first time in Ortega’s career he has filled a main event slot. Both Swanson and Ortega are California natives.
Swanson (25-7) has won four straight by unanimous decision and 10 of his past 12 overall, including two consecutive Fight of the Night performances against Doo Ho Choi in December and Artem Lobov in April.
Meanwhile, Ortega (12-0, 1 NC) has four consecutive third-round stoppage victories, which is a UFC record. In fact, no other fighter in UFC history has more than two consecutive third-round stoppage wins. He submitted rising Brazilian Renato Moicano at UFC 214 in a bout that earned him a Fight of the Night bonus.
