UFC fans are in for a treat when the organization heads to the nation’s capital on June 18 as a welterweight matchup between fan favourites Donald Cerrone and Patrick Cote has been added to the UFC’s first event in Ottawa.
Cerrone (29-7, 1 NC) has been a perennial lightweight (155-pound) contender since 2011 but decided to try his hand at 170 pounds earlier this year. He won his welterweight debut on Feb. 21 by submitting Alex Oliveira with a first-round triangle. Cerrone gets a step up in competition in the form of Cote.
A popular Canadian veteran, Cote (23-9) has won six of his last seven and is coming off back-to-back TKO wins over Josh Burkman and Ben Saunders in arguably the two best performances of his career.
Welterweight contenders Rory MacDonald and Steven “Wonderboy” Thompson will battle it out in the main event. No other fights have been added to the card at this time.
