A featherweight title bout between champion Max Holloway and challenger Frankie Edgar will headline UFC 218.
The promotion made an official announcement late Tuesday.
Holloway defeated Anthony Pettis at UFC 206 in December to win the interim 145-pound title before unifying the belt when he finished Jose Aldo at UFC 212 in June. The 25-year-old Hawaiian has been unstoppable since suffering a unanimous decision loss to Conor McGregor in 2013. Holloway (18–3) is currently riding an 11-fight winning streak.
Edgar (22–5–1) beat Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez in back-to-back fights to earn what will be his third shot at the featherweight strap. The 35-year-old future Hall of Famer was defeated by Aldo on two separate occasions via unanimous decision, once in 2013 and again in 2016.
The former lightweight champ could become the fourth—or fifth depending on whether or not Georges St-Pierre beats Michael Bisping at UFC 217—fighter in UFC history to win championship belts in two different weight classes. Randy Couture, B.J. Penn and Conor McGregor are the only fighters that have accomplished it thus far.
UFC 218 is scheduled for Dec. 2 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
Other notable bouts expected to take place at the event include: Alistair Overeem vs. Francis Ngannou, Eddie Alvarez vs. Justin Gaethje, and Henry Cejudo vs. Sergio Pettis.
