Although it hasn’t been officially made, the dream fight between MMA superstar Conor McGregor and controversial boxing great Floyd Mayweather has already attracted betting action.

Conor McGregor has built up an outstanding resume in the MMA world in a short period of time, amassing a 17-1 record over 18 professional fights since 2011. McGregor has risen to every challenge set in front of him in the UFC, which has led the Irish superstar to set his sights on a challenge outside of the octagon – Floyd Mayweather in a boxing ring.

McGregor is going off as a +750 underdog in this potential dream fight at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Bettors seem to be attracted to the longshot odds, which are down to +750 on McGregor and -1400 on Mayweather from the opening odds of -2250 on Mayweather and +950 on McGregor.

Needless to say, an upset over Mayweather would be an improbable feat for McGregor. But it wouldn’t be the first time that McGregor has accomplished the improbable, including his meteoric rise to become the face of the UFC, a win in 13 seconds as a -105 underdog against Jose Aldo, or his win over Nate Diaz at UFC 202 fighting up a weight class.

McGregor’s lack of a pure boxing background is being seen as a detriment, but perhaps his unorthodox and unknown style in the ring could catch Mayweather off guard.

If McGregor were to catch Mayweather off guard, he’d be the first ever to do so. Mayweather is a perfect 49-0 as a professional, and a return to the ring would not only earn Mayweather another huge payday, but it would also give him the chance to cement his legacy at a perfect 50-0.

Mayweather is used to being a big favourite, but if this fight were to go down it would be just the third time since 2005 that he was a favourite of over -1000 odds.

This is a fight that both boxing fans and MMA fans desperately want to see. Conventional wisdom suggests that Mayweather would be at a massive advantage if this fight were to take place. That fact won’t bother Conor McGregor, who has been in the gym working extensively on his boxing game this year in hopes of pulling off one of the biggest upsets in sports history.
