UFC cancels Fight Night event in Manila after BJ Penn injury

The UFC announced it cancelled its scheduled Oct. 15 UFC Fight Night event in Manila, Philippines two days after headliner BJ Penn was forced to withdraw due to an injury.

“Athletes scheduled to compete on the Oct. 15 card will be rebooked at upcoming UFC events in the near future,” a UFC press release stated. “Each athlete set to compete on Oct. 15 will also receive compensation due to the card being rescheduled. With its 2016 calendar finalized, UFC officials will discuss future dates for the event.”

Penn was set to take on former title challenger Ricardo Lamas in a featherweight matchup. The former lightweight and welterweight champion hasn’t fought suffering a one-sided TKO loss to Frankie Edgar in July 2014. Penn, 37, 1-5-1 since 2010.
