A dynamic heavyweight matchup between Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne is set for the UFC’s debut event on FOX Sports 1 at the TD Garden in Boston on Aug. 17.

Overeem (36-12, 1 NC) is coming off a vicious knockout loss to Antonio Silva at UFC 156 in February. It was the former Strikeforce champion’s first time competing since returning from a nine-month time period where he was denied a fight licence by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone prior to a scheduled UFC 146 heavyweight title fight against then-champion Junior dos Santos.

He picked up a TKO win over Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 in his promotional debut and at the time many had Overeem ranked as the No. 1 heavyweight in MMA.

It was believed Overeem was being targeted for an appearance at UFC 164 on Aug. 31 and last week tweeted that he was preparing for that date.

Browne (14-1-1) picked up a Knockout of the Night bonus in his last outing in April — a 71-second knockout of Gabriel Gonzaga. Prior to that win, Browne was also coming of a huge KO loss at the hands of Silva.

According to MMAjunkie.com, the fight will not serve as the main event, but it will air on the main card.
