UFC interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao will likely miss the UFC 161 main event against Eddie Wineland this June in Winnipeg.
According to MMAjunkie.com, a UFC official says Barao ‘probably’ won’t be able to fight at the event due to a foot injury. The Brazilian will undergo tests on Monday that will determine whether he will in fact miss Manitoba’s first first UFC event.
The 27-year-old Barao would have been defending his title for the second time as champion Dominick Cruz remains sidelined with a knee injury. Barao, who defeated Michael McDonald in his first title defence in February, has won 30 straight fights, including five consecutive in the UFC.
UFC 161 takes place at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on June 15 and also features Antonio Rogerio Nogueira versus Mauricio Rua and Rashad Evans versus Dan Henderson on the main card.
