Georges St-Pierre is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair his torn left ACL next week in Los Angeles.

The former UFC welterweight champion, who vacated his title in December and stepped away from MMA, suffered the injury while training at Tristar Gym last week in Montreal.

According to a report on UFC Tonight, St-Pierre says his injury isn’t painful and doesn’t change his stance on potentially returning to the UFC one day; he will see how the surgery goes then reassess the situation.

The 32-year-old tore his right ACL in 2011 and it kept him out of action for 19 months.

Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the same orthopedic surgeon who operated on St-Pierre in 2011, will perform next week’s procedure. ElAttrache has also performed surgeries on the likes of high-profile athletes Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant and Zack Greinke, plus popular action movie stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone among many others.

Since vacating his title, the Saint-Isidore, Que., native says he has been happy and stills aims to become a better mixed martial artist despite not actively competing in the UFC.

“I still train every day,” St-Pierre recently told UFC.com. “I’m probably in better shape than I was when I was fighting. I’m definitely healthier and less stressed.”

St-Pierre is 25-2 in MMA and debuted in the UFC in January 2004. He is a two-time champion that holds the promotion’s all-time records for most wins, strikes, takedowns and total time spent competing in a UFC cage.
