Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz was arrested in California early Monday on a misdemeanour charge of suspicion of driving under the influence.

The MMA star was taken into custody by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after crashing his Porsche into a concrete median on a Los Angeles highway.

“Ortiz was driving northbound on the I-405 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the concrete center median,” stated a press release from the California Highway Patrol. “He was transported to LAPD-77th Division for medical clearance and chemical testing and was booked without incident.”

According to the press release, his vehicle was moderately damaged and neither Ortiz nor his two passengers were injured.

Ortiz was released on a $15,000 bond and is scheduled for a Jan. 27 court appearance.

The 38-year-old is currently signed to Bellator MMA, a rival promotion to the UFC, and hasn’t competed since July 2012.
