UFC welterweight contender Matt Brown missed weight on the eve of his main event fight with Robbie Lawler.
While Lawler stepped on the scale at an even 171 pounds — the limit for non-title welterweight bouts — Brown weighed in at 172.5 pounds.
The weigh-ins took place at the SAP Center in San Jose, which is where Saturday’s event takes place.
PROGRAMMING NOTE: Watch UFC on FOX 12 Saturday on Sportsnet 360 with prelims starting at 6 p.m. EST and the main card at 8 p.m. EST
Typically, fighters that come in heavy are given an additional hour or two (depending on the jurisdiction) to make weight, however UFC president Dana White told reporters after the weigh-ins the California State Athletic Commission would not allow Brown to cut any additional weight.
White also said neither the commission nor the UFC will fine Brown; fighters that miss weight are usually fined 20 percent of their total purse and are ineligible for the UFC’s post-fight bonuses. White added that Brown’s bout with Lawler remains a title eliminator with the winner earning a shot at Johny Hendricks and the welterweight title later this year.
Brown had never missed weight in his UFC career prior to Friday.
Women’s strawweight fighter Juliana Carneiro Lima also missed weight, but like Brown will not be fined because she was not given additional time to meet the requirements. Lima and Brown are still eligible for post-fight bonuses.
All other fighters on the card made weight.
