Nick Diaz can’t seem to stay out of the headlines.
Just days after he lost a unanimous decision to Georges St-Pierre in the main event of UFC 158 in Montreal, Diaz caused a stir after posting a picture online Monday that suggested he had been arrested.
According to the Citrus Heights Police Department in California, Diaz was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over Sunday night for driving the wrong way down a one-way street in Sacramento.
Diaz posted a photo of him sitting on a curb in front of a police car with its lights on with the caption “F**k they got us” — however Diaz was not arrested.
Sergeant David Moranz from the Citrus Heights PD said the driver of the car was arrested on an outstanding warrant, while another passenger was arrested on possession of concentrated cannabis.
“(Diaz) was cooperative and released without incident,” Moranz told MMAWeekly.com.
The photo, which was posted on Diaz’s Twitter and Instagram, had many believing it was connected in some way to his UFC 158 post-fight comments where he said he has never paid taxes and that he was probably going to go to jail.
The 29-year-old’s trainer and manager Cesar Gracie told MMAjunkie.com Monday that Diaz misspoke and has in fact paid more than $100,000 in income taxes to the U.S. government in the last two years.
“Nick is a little crazy, but he has paid taxes,” Gracie said.
However, Gracie also said there may still owe money to the IRS.
“He should have never made that statement,” Gracie added. “He should have just gotten an accountant and paid his taxes. He made a lot of money for this fight. Just get yourself squared away, bro. You’re there for a fight. You’re going to start talking about taxes? It’s like, ‘Huh?'”
