MONCTON, N.B. -- Patrick Chan demolished his previous world scoring mark en route to claiming his fifth Canadian men's figure skating title Sunday.

The 21-year-old from Toronto scored 302.14 overall points to win the event, and 200.81 points for a free program that included two quadruple jumps.

Chan held up three fingers after his score was announced to mark the 300-point breakthrough.

However the score won't count as a world record as the Canadian championships are a domestic event.

Chan scored 280.98 overall at the world championships last April in Moscow, and 187.96 in the free skate.

Kevin Reynolds of Coquitlam, B.C., won silver with 239.44 points, while Vancouver's Jeremy Ten was third with 207.50.
