Aussie Olympic swimmer Jess Schipper retiring

SYDNEY, Australia — Double Olympic gold medallist Jess Schipper has announced her retirement from competitive swimming at the age of 27.

Schipper, a butterfly specialist, was a member of Australian 4×100-meter medley relay teams which won gold medals at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics.

She was a world champion in the 100 butterfly and 4×100 medley relay in 2005, in the 200 butterfly and medley relay in 2007 and in the 200 butterfly in 2009, setting a world record. Schipper holds the Australian and Commonwealth records in the 100 and 200 fly.
