TORONTO — Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter will represent Canada in men’s beach volleyball at the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games, while Melissa Humana-Paredes and Taylor Pischke will compete in the women’s event.
Binstock and Schachter, both of Richmond Hill, Ont., won a silver medal this season at the Porec Major Series event in Croatia. The pair is ranked fourth on the FIVB World Tour.
Toronto’s Humana-Paredes and Winnipeg’s Pischke, currently ranked 10th in the world, are rising stars on the beach circuit. They are two-time bronze medallists at the FIVB World Under-23 Championships and won the NORCECA regional championship last year. Humana-Paredes was also named top rookie of 2014 by FIVB.
"We are not only representing our countries, but also our family, friends and supporters who have been there for us throughout our partnership," Binstock said in a statement. "We are grateful to be able to play in front of them and have this once in a lifetime chance to compete at a multi-sport games on home soil, especially in our home city."
The beach volleyball competition will take place July 13-21 at the Chevrolet Beach Volleyball Centre.
