DUISBURG, Germany — The Canadian Sprint CanoeKayak Team added six more medals on Sunday to close out the second stop of the ICF canoe sprint World Cup.
Mark de Jonge of Halifax led the way by winning two medals. De Jonge, the reining world champion and Olympic bronze medallist, won a bronze medal in the men’s K1 200-metre event and also captured gold in the men’s K4 200 crew event, with a squad including Ryan Cochrane of Windsor, N.S., Montreal’s Hugues Fournel and Quebec City’s Etienne Monreau.
Aaron Rublee of Kamloops, B.C., and Maxim Poulin, from Lac Beauport, Que. claimed a silver medal in the men’s C2 200 and joined Ben Russell of Dartmouth, N.S. and Ottawa’s Ben Tardioli in the men’s C4 200 to tack on a bronze medal.
Russell also raced the men’s C1 5000 and won bronze.
Laurence Vincent-Lapointe, from Trois-Rivieres, Que., won gold in the women’s C1 200 while Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ont. narrowly missed the podium and finished fourth.
Four-time Olympic medallist Adam van Koeverden of Oakville, Ont. finished fourth in the men’s K1 500.
The final ICF canoe sprint World Cup event will take place in Demark next weekend.
