SEOUL, Korea, Republic Of — Marianne St-Gelais reached the podium in the fourth straight World Cup this season, taking silver in the women’s 1,000-metre race at the ISU short track speed skating event on Saturday.
St-Gelais, from Saint-Felicien, Que., has won at least one medal in each of the individual World Cups so far in 2014-15. She won silver in the 500 and bronze in the 1,000 in Shanghai last week, a silver medal in the 500 in Montreal in November, and two medals — gold in the 1,000 and bronze in the 500 — in Salt Lake City to start the season.
On Saturday, St-Gelais finished in one minute 33.245 seconds, behind China’s Han Yutong at 1:33.092 and ahead of Britain’s Elise Christie at 1:33.449.
Kim Boutin of Sherbrooke, Ont., finished first in the women’s 1,000 B Final, good for fifth place overall.
In the men’s 1,000, Charles Hamelin of Sainte-Julie, Que., settled for fourth place with a time of 1:43.855. He crossed the finish line more than eight seconds off the podium after falling during the race.
Wu Dajing of China took gold in 1:27.447, Kwak Yoon-Gy of South Korea placed second in 1:34.793, and Sjinkie Knegt of the Netherlands was third in 1:35.177.
