Cdn pair win canoe bronze at World Cup event

RACICE, Czech Republic — KC Fraser and Genevieve Beauchesne-Sevigny won bronze for Canada’s first medal at the IFC Canoe Sprint World Cup 2 on Saturday.

Fraser, from Oakville, Ont., and Beauchesne-Sevigny, from Trois-Rivieres, Que., finished third in the K2 500-metre event in one minute 40.7 seconds. Germany took gold in 1:39.3 while Belarus followed in 1:40.7.

Alexa Irvin of Kentville, N.S. and Una Lounder of Dartmouth, N.S., finished eighth with a time of 1:44.8.

Elsewhere, Gabriel Beauchesne-Sevigny of Trois-Rivieres, and Roland Varga of Richmond Hill, Ont., finished fourth in the C2 1,000.

Pierre-Luc Laliberte of Pointe-Claire, Que., and Paul Bryant of Richmond Hill, Ont., along with Mark Klevinas and Jamie Andison of Oakville were fourth in the C4 1,000 metre.
