The stupidest self-inflicted injury by a professional athlete still belongs to Plaxico Burress. Burress brought a gun with him to a night club in New York. At some point during the night the gun began to slide down Burress’ pants. In an attempt to try and stop it from falling out the bottom of his pants, Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg. He suffered minor injuries but was forced to turn himself into police for criminal possession of a handgun. Burress accepted a deal that sent him to jail for two years.
