Daley wins gold at Commonwealth Games

EDINBURGH — Diver Tom Daley has upgraded his 10-meter platform bronze medal for Britain at the 2012 London Olympics to a Commonwealth Games gold for England.

Daley, the defending champion in the event from New Delhi in 2010, finished the six-dive final Saturday with 516.55 points, well ahead of the silver medallist , Ooi Tze Liang of Malaysia, who had 433.70.

Vincent Riendeau of Canada earned the bronze while 2008 Olympic platform gold medallist Matt Mitcham of Australia was fourth.

Daley’s win took England’s total from 10 dive events to 10 medals, four of them gold.

Earlier in the evening program at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, Esther Qin of Australia won the women’s 3-meter springboard.
