The Calgary Flames have lost six straight games at home equaling the team record, but not really.
It was from Dec. 5 through Dec. 31 in 1998 when the Flames lost six straight in the Saddledome. Five of those contests were lost in regulation time and one in OT. They didn’t get a point out of the six matches since in those days a team didn’t get an extra point for being tied after regulation time as they do now.
Of the six home setbacks now, the Flames have garnered two points since two of the defeats came in Extra Time. The Flames record for consecutive games at home without points is 10 set during the 2000-01 season.
Regardless, on Friday Bob Hartley’s squad seeks to end the home losing streak entertaining the Florida Panthers.
It comes 24 hours after the Flames first trade during this season which took a player out of the lineup. Popular winger Tim Jackman was dealt to Anaheim on Thursday in exchange for the Ducks sixth round pick in 2014. GM Jay Feaster also made a trade on Nov. 8 when he secured defenceman Ladislav Smid from Edmonton along with goalie Olivier Roy. But the two players moved in that transaction, goalie Laurent Brossoit and forward Roman Horak, weren’t on the roster at that time.
The departure of Jackman brings forward Blair Jones back to the Flames. The 27-year-old Jones was leading the team’s AHL farm team, Abbotsford Heat, in scoring with eight goals and 20 points in 16 games. Jones was up with the Flames for 3 games earlier in the season but didn’t dress.
Should Jones get in the Flames lineup on Friday. He’d be the 31st player to play. That would be the most by any NHL team. Detroit Red Wings have employed 30 players thus far.
